The
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is committed to the conservation of natural habitats, a mission illustrated in their facility by its careful design, use of materials, and
location on the site. A feature of the
Visitor Center is the building’s structure of
parallel strand lumber, a composite wood product. Incorporating this type of material allows for the use of smaller
beams and columns, minimizing the use of old-growth timber and creating a
distinctive aesthetic. The buildings incorporate a host of conservation strategies and their
interior spaces are designed to be flexible, so as the foundation
grows and changes the facility can do the same.
